How essential oil extraction works

The essential oil extractor up to 280 liters uses the principle of steam distillation , one of the most effective methods Agritechstore essential oil extraction to obtain pure essential oil and aromatic water while keeping the natural properties of the plants intact.

The process is simple, safe, and requires no advanced chemical skills, making this juicer suitable for both professionals and experienced users.

What is needed for the extraction of essential oils?

To perform the extraction, a few essential elements are needed:

  • essential oil extractor

  • gas, electric or induction stove

  • waterfall

  • aromatic plants with a high essential oil content

Among the most used plants: mint, lavender, thyme, rosemary, savory, sage and other medicinal species.

???? No chemical laboratory is required: the extractor can also work on a normal kitchen stove , offering great flexibility of use.

Ideal quantity and time of harvest

To achieve an effective extraction, approximately 2 kg of fresh plant is needed, harvested at the peak concentration of the active ingredients, known as the balsamic period . This ensures optimal yield and a high-quality essential oil.

Procedure for using the extractor

Using the extractor is intuitive and follows well-defined steps:

  1. Pour water into the boiler until it reaches the bottom grill.

  2. Arrange the plants avoiding preferential channels for steam

  3. Place the top grill and close the lid

  4. Connect the steel cooling circuit and the Pyrex glass burette

  5. Turn on the heat source (gas, electric or induction)

  6. Once the temperature reaches approximately 50°C , activate the cooling function.

The steam passes through the plants, capturing the essences, which are subsequently separated by the difference in specific weight between the aromatic water and the essential oil.

Oil extraction and recovery times

After 60–70 minutes from the start of the process, you can check the increase of oil in the collection cylinder.
When the increase becomes minimal, you can turn off the heat source and recover the essential oil through the lower tap of the burette .

At the end, a thorough cleaning of the extractor is recommended to preserve its efficiency over time.

Products obtained from distillation

The distillation process produces two distinct and highly valuable products:

Pure essential oil

Freshly extracted essential oil may require a resting period of several weeks to mature and fully develop its aromatic profile.

Aromatic water

Aromatic water is not waste, but a precious second product , usable for:

  • iron

  • natural skin tonic

  • irrigation of plants, thanks to its antiseptic power

Storing essential oils

Essential oil is a delicate product and must be stored properly to maintain its quality and effectiveness.

How to properly store essential oil

  • use dark glass bottles

  • Store away from direct light

  • avoid heat sources

Correct storage prevents alterations in aroma and the formation of unwanted substances.
